What Is a Florida Apostille?

A Florida apostille is a certificate issued by the Florida Secretary of State that authenticates a Florida-notarized or Florida-issued document for use in a foreign country that is party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. It verifies the authenticity of the notary's commission. Mobile Mark Notary performs the underlying notarization and coordinates the apostille submission.

When You Need a Florida Apostille

  • Marriage abroad — birth certificates, single-status affidavits, divorce decrees
  • International adoption — home study, background checks, financial affidavits
  • Foreign employment — diplomas, transcripts, criminal background checks (FDLE)
  • International business — articles of incorporation, certificates of good standing, POAs
  • Property transactions abroad — POAs, deeds, certifications
  • Dual citizenship applications — Italian, Polish, Irish, etc.

The Florida Apostille Process — 4 Steps

  1. Identify the destination country. Confirm it is a Hague Convention member. Non-members require embassy legalization instead.
  2. Notarize the document. Mobile Mark Notary performs the notarization in person or via RON.
  3. Submit to Florida Secretary of State. The document is sent to the FL SOS Apostille and Certification Section for the apostille certificate.
  4. Receive the apostilled document. Standard processing typically takes 7–10 business days; expedited options are available.

What Documents Can Be Apostilled

  • Notarized documents — POAs, affidavits, contracts, declarations
  • Vital records — Florida birth, death, marriage certificates (must be certified copies from the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics or county clerk)
  • Court documents — certified by the issuing court clerk
  • FDLE background checks — for international employment
  • Educational documents — typically require notarized affidavit from the school registrar
